Some movies are based on novels and ancient stories but as for the movie Beowulf, it’s based on a Poem. The poem Beowulf is an about a person who is stronger than any human and kills monster and is people’s hero. This poem was from eight centuries and was not written down until tenth-twelfth century. In the Beowulf, a hero of the Geats comes to help king Hrothgar, Danes king, whose hall is being attack by a powerful monster known as Grendel. Although, there were similarities and differences between the poem and the movie about Grendel’s mother, Beowulf and the Dragon.
The monster named Grendel, who terrorized the Herot, a hall of Hrothgar, has a mother who was more evil and cruel than anything. Grendel’s mother lived away from people and does not bother anyone until Grendel got killed by Beowulf. After Grendel’s death, his …show more content…

The Dragon was very powerful in both poem and the movie. The dragon breath fire which is very powerful and undefeatable. Beowulf’s mail shirt and other weapons were useless against the dragon. Beowulf dies fighting the dragon and the dragon dies too at the end. But in the movie, Dragon happens to be the child of Beowulf and Grendel’s mother. As in poem, Dragon was terrorized the people but in movie it came searching for its father. The dragon, son of both Grendel’s mother and Beowulf, tries to kill other people but not Beowulf. Beowulf was strongest men in the poem but in the movie he did not kill Grendel’s mother. He come out as a weak man in the movie compare to the poem.
There was all the same character in both movie and poem the story but there were some additional character and events were different about Grendel’s mother, Beowulf and the Dragon. This characters and events were changed to entertain modern days’ audience which is different than sixteenth-seventeenth centuries audience. Though movies are were based upon novels or poems, some events are change for the entertainment of
