In the poem Beowulf, Beowulf has three fights with Grendel, Grendel's mother, and The Dragon. Beowulf was called to fight Grendel because Grendel had been attacking for twelve years. The other battles were his choice and some readers think that both of them or one of them was unnecessary. Beowulf did what he was called to do and that was to kill Grendel. Beowulf looked like a hero because the other men had been trying to kill Grendel over and over again but they never succeeded and Beowulf killed Grendel the first time they fought. But then he started to have the other battles. Those were his choice and not a hundred percent necessary. This was the only battle that he was told to have. The townspeople had been fighting off Grendel for twelve years and they never once succeeded. Beowulf was called down to take care of the problem and he succeeded. That night when Grendel came to attack Beowulf was ready and he killed Grendel right there. But it was a special battle because there were no weapons they only fought with their bare hands. It all depend on their own strength which made it a fair battle. The townspeople were so thankful they didn’t have to worry anymore. Their nightmare was over. This is when things changed in the town “Heorot is the center world.
