Beowulf was the son of Edgetho. “We are Geats, Men who follow Higlac. My father Was a famous soldier, known far and wide as a leader of men. His name was Edgetho.” / pg. 46 L 175. He went to the kingdom of King Hrothgar. “ Hail Hrothgar” / pg. 47 L 255. The reason for his arrival was so Beowulf could slay their monster. The monster was Grendel. He was brave because he went to the kingdom to defeat Grendel, a monster from Hell, then to defeat Grendel’s mother, and then a dragon. He was strong because he ripped off Grendel’s arm with his two bare hands, used a huge sword to cut off Grendel’s mother’s head, and he cut open the part where the flames come out of. He then reached in and grabbed the dragon’s heart and ripped it out. The courage that Beowulf had was by him going to king Hrothgar waning to help him. Wanting to kill the monster named Grendel. Beowulf wanted to achieve immortality by slaying every monster that’s in his path. Also by having gold, fame, and having the kingdom. He is and was an epic hero because he was willing to help the King kill any monsters he had. He also wanted to help save all the people from the kingdom so they could have more joyful.
