Beowulf, the oldest written epic poem, refers to many aspects of the Anglo-Saxon culture in both positive and negative ways. The positive values a character attains, plus the added courage, bravery and determination, a hero is born. In the epic poem, the character Beowulf is introduced as a man of great value and character.
