Although the story Beowulf was first told over a thousand years ago, Beowulf's traits are still applicable to modern society. Beowulf’s qualities relate to my experience as a timber framer. As a timber framer, I was working on a project on Squam Lake this past summer. It took confidence to get out of the box on the forks of a lull and to get on the house frame sixty five feet up; I climbed around on the beams trying to get them in the right spot. Anglo Saxon culture plays a part in my work experiences. I also learned that sometimes you need to just go for it, for example “the hero and his troop sail from the land of the Geats” line 210. Beowulf heard about the trouble in Heorot and felt he needed to pay a debt his father had created. He was going to repay the debt by saving them. He was ready and willing to help save other people. Beowulf is able to have an effect on his readers today by showing all of his heroic qualities. It is able to make the reader feel more like a hero even though they don't possess all of the qualities Beowulf has, but they more than likely have one of them. Beowulf is a heroic character which can translate to the reader. Readers of beowulf take away that confidence is needed for success and that is what beowulf symbolizes to me. Beowulf was able to save the people of Heorot. Modern day heroic actions can be as simple as speaking up to save someone like beowulf saved many people with his actions. This novel is able to inspire young readers. The Epic poem of Beowulf is an inspiring book that could have an effect on the way students and young adults treat school and work experiences. Sometimes you just have to go for it, even though you do not know what the outcome will be. I think that beowulf is a book that should be kept in school curriculums. The only part about the book that I dislike is the old style english grammar, it makes the novel difficult to understand at times when you have to reread a paragraph multiple times to understand the
