Everything that happens has outward consequences on other people. In the short stories, “American History” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, and “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the characters go through a lot of changes that affect the other characters in the story. The internal struggles of one character from each story have outward consequences because it pulls them apart from their families, helps them experience life, and reduces their capability of empathy.
In “Harrison Bergeron”, Harrison is taken from his home at a young age because he was so different from everyone he knew as a kid including his parents. He lost his connection with his family physically, emotionally, and mentally. When he was a young boy
