BestBuy is the world #1 consumer electronics retailer with over 4000 stores across the globe. My very first live project was working as a developer for the Ship from Store project with BestBuy. In the second half of the previous year, BestBuy sales had plunged 43% and not quite the turnaround that stakeholders hoped for. At that point in time, many industry watchers were skeptic about how the retailer would actually compete with Amazon. Obviously, speed of delivery is a prominent factor in which retailers are battling to beat each other. That’s where BestBuy had its advantage. It is an exemplary case demonstrating how today's Omni channel consumers behaviorally respond to radical changes in a store environment. Do they shop for a particular product on BestBuy first or its brand’s standalone outlet? Where do they spend the most time? What do they look at? In the retail paradigm of the future, it wouldn’t suffice to just measure footfalls (in case of in store retail) or net revenue / profit generated. It would be of utmost importance for retailers looking for a lucrative business to analyze consumer behavior in store just like their websites do in great detail. Online retailers know everything about consumer behavior: where you came from, where you entered the online store, everywhere you clicked, your shopping cart, conversion rates and what was attached. BestBuy analyzes and optimizes customer experiences associated with product placement and in-store promotions/advertising campaigns by using analytical tools and softwares which provide real-time information regarding customer count, traffic flow patterns, dwell-times and information regarding customers' in-store shopping
