My report is on Bethany Hamilton. She has inspired millions through her great story. She was born on February 8, 1990, into a family of surfers. She has two older brothers, Timmy and Noah. Bethany’s first competition was when she was 8, in Oahu the Rell Sunn event, where she won both board divisions. These competitions sparked a love of surfing in her. At the age of thirteen, Bethany had been attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark off of the North Shore of Kauai. This attack left Bethany with no left arm. Bethany was on her way to recovery with a really good attitude after losing 60% of her blood, and making it through a lot of surgeries without having any kind of affliction. The doctors believe that her strong water sense and faith in God got her through this incident. A few weeks after the traumatic event, Bethany got back in the water to keep chasing her goal to be a pro surfer. In January of 2004, Bethany returned to the surfing competition, taking 5th place. Some of the other books she has written are “Rise Above,” “Ask Bethany,” “Soul Surfer Devotions,” “Soul Surfer” Bible. Since Bethany was young her parents inculcate their belief in the Lord; and at the age of 5 she made the choice to make a direct relationship with God. Bethany’s foundation of faith has been her hope, backbone, strength, and her source of inspiration. Bethany grew from a young girl with a desire of becoming a pro surfer into a 24 year old pro surfer with a dream of becoming a light of inspiration, and aspiration. She is continuing to touch a numerous of people with her life message, charitable efforts, and all her full on spirit. Bethany is included in a lot of charitable attempts, also one of her own foundation, “Friends of Bethany,” which supports amputees, shark attack survivors, and keeps to inspire people through her great life
