If you do so, you are insulting yourself.”. “If you win, you need not have to explain...If you lose, you should not be there to explain!”. “If you want to shine like sun, first you have to burn like it.”. If you were to guess who said this, who would you think of? Would you think of someone like Donald Trump, or maybe Joe Biden? If so you are wrong, because the man who said these things was Adolf Hitler. In January, 1933, the Holocaust started. This was the event that the two stories, Swing Kids and Night were based off of. Swing Kids is a movie about a boy who gets recruited into the HJ, despite being a swing kid, who is someone against the HJ. This is fully weaved throughout the two stories, causing even further conflict in them both. In the movie Swing Kids by Thomas Carter, there is a major instance of betrayal when Emil beats up Arvid, just for listening to music that was made by a black jew. This was betrayal because of the fact that Emil used to be the leader of the swing kids. They didn’t think that Emil was going to attack Arvid because of this. Another moment of betrayal is in Night when a child abandons his father for his own survival. This is stated on page 91, which says “A terrible thought crossed my mind: What if he had wanted to be rid of his father? He had felt his father growing weaker and, believing that the end was near, had thought by this separation to free himself of a burden that could diminish his own chance for survival.” (Weisel 91). One was a story coming from the perspective of a Jew, and one is coming from the perspective of a german. This is different because in Germany, the swing kids were seen as just another human in the day, although disliked in the night. In Night though, no matter what, they are always thought of as lower because they are Jewish. According to Night, it says “Faster you filthy dogs” (85 Weisel). This goes to show how even though they are humans, they are treated like dogs. This is purely just because of the fact that they are Jewish. On the side of Swing Kids though, they are treated like normal people. They can go and get jobs and do whatever they want. They robbed (or tried at least) a store for a radio, and got a very minuscule amount of punishment, whereas if a Jewish person tried this, they would most likely end up
