American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter was born on September 4, 1981. Known as "Queen Bey" and a major player in 21st-century pop culture, she has received accolades for her singing and has been named one of the all-time greats by Rolling Stone. Beyoncé began entering singing and dance contests when she was a little girl. She became famous in the late '90s when she was a part of the groundbreaking R&B group Destiny's Child, which went on to sell more records than any other girl group in history. Parker Elementary School was a Houston music magnet that Beyoncé attended in the 1990s, when she was a member of the school chorus. She continued her education at Alief Elsik High School after having previously attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts [33]. Beyoncé also spent two years performing as a soloist at St. John's United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. It was there that she sang her first solo. At an audition for an all-girl entertainment company, Beyoncé met LaTavia Roberson when she was eight years old. They joined forces with three other females to form Girl's Tyme, and they performed rap and dance numbers at several Houston talent shows. R&B producer Arne questionnaire saw the trio perform and immediately invited them to his studio in Northern California.
