Just as stereotypes are prevalent in advertisements, bias is prevalent in news outlets. The news is everywhere – on television, on the computer, and in the hands of the consumer on his or her cell phone. People have access to the news wherever they go. It is up to consumers, however, to read what they want to read and to accept the opinions they want to accept. In the past, news was just news – reporters could not present bias, only facts. Over time, bias began to develop within news organizations. People today tend to gravitate towards the news sites that share the opinions that they developed growing up. These sites are extremely important to the teens and young adults that use them, because they provided them with a plethora of information that might have never seen without the forums. However, the problem with networks like MySpace and Facebook is that they were isolated platforms during their time. People could only see what they wanted to see and friend who they wanted to friend. But as time progressed and MySpace fazed out, Facebook became more integrated in the sense that more information was becoming available. It was following the footsteps of other platforms that began to diverge, like Twitter. Twitter started from being people mindlessly sharing random thoughts and has turned into one of the biggest hubs for news from around the world. Upon entering the homepage of Twitter, the main links that appear are “Featured”, “Sports”, “News”, “Music”, “Entertainment”, and “Lifestyle”. This provides access to people of all ages to different news sites that provide different perspectives on topics. Twitter has also changed the way news is perceived through viral tweets that can leak stories not typically shown on news
