Throughout the book, Fitzgerald gives many biblical allusions using his character Jay Gatsby. One example of this is when Nick, Jordan, Tom, Gatsby, and Daisy take a day trip to New York. This day was filled with tension because Tom was getting the hint something was going on between Gatsby and Daisy. They had multiple instances of arguing and sparring earlier that day. When they got back to the Buchanan’s house it had become dark and was now nighttime. Nick was waiting in his cab when he saw Gatsby hiding in the bushes. Gatsby was making sure Tom wasn’t going to harm Daisy. Nick gets in his cab, the Buchanan’s go to sleep and now Gatsby is all alone.
