Biblical Allusions Assignment 1. “The Creation”-- The opening sentence of the bible introduces the two main characters in the Bible: God and man. God is continually pleased with his creation and stops 6 times throughout the creation to observe his handiwork and believed that it was good. The last time he inspects it, God regards it as "very good." It is a reminder that God made you and is pleased with you and that you are of great worth to him. In verse 26, God says, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness ..." Which is the only account in the creation that God uses the plural form to refer to himself. The Last Supper— this is the last meal Jesus ate before his crucifixion. In the midst of this dinner, Jesus hints at his coming death and foretells which of his disciples will betray him. They all eat unleavened bread and drink red wine. Jesus foretells that the red wine symbolizes his blood that that he sacrifices for them and that the bread symbolizes his body broken for them. This is known as the first communion and is repeated in remembrance of this last supper. 14. The Garden of Gethsemane— the garden of Gethsemane is a quiet place where Jesus likes to sit and pray. Jesus brings his disciples in order to watch for his betrayers but all of his disciples fall asleep. Jesus checks on them tree times and tries to wake them up, but nothing happens. After a while, the Roman soldiers come in to the garden and Peter, who acted before thinking, cut off the ear of a guard. Jesus asked him to stop the violence and Jesus healed the guards ear but then was taken to jail and the disciples scattered. The disciples who swore that they would never leave Jesus all ran away. 15. The Betrayal—Because of Jesus’s omnipotence, he knew from the beginning that Judas would betray him, even before Judas did. Judas visited the high priests and agreed upon a time to arrest Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Judas kisses Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane to show which man was Jesus and was to be
