Columbiads provided a multi-purpose, heavy hitting gun that could easily change the outcome of a battle. Invented by Colonel George Bomford in 1811, Columbiads eventually became a common weapon seen throughout various battles, especially during the Civil War. “Simply put, the columbiad was a large-caliber, smooth bore, muzzle loading artillery piece able to fire solid shot or shell at both high and low angles.” Columbiads were best used as seacoast defense weapons, extremely well suited against ironclad ships. Once, exploded shrapnel from the bomb ripped through enemy soldiers. Howitzers were short barreled gun which fired shells at high trajectories at low velocities. Intended to be a siege weapon it was a more flexible mortar. Artillery could often go 1,000 to 2,000 yards at maximum range but max effectiveness was half of this. Artillery was used in battles in Yorktown and were extremely effective.
There are a lot of turning point that led to the revolutionary war. Every act that the king signed and put intoto effect plus the actions of the red coats fueled the colonies motivation to start a revolution . The four major reasons were the stamp act, Tea act ,common sense by Thomas paine, declaration of independence The stamp act 1765 was the first direct tax put on the British colonies in North America (DOC.A). The colonies were not fond of the stamp act they had no say in what the tax should be on nor what it should be spent on.
In an attempt to address concerns dealing with representation of the states in Congress, delegates chosen from the states: Massachusetts, New York, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, and Georgia met in Philadelphia on July 16, 1787 in a meeting called, The Constitutional Convention. Among these delegates was Roger Sherman of Connecticut. Sherman was seen as awkward and unmeaning, giving off the air of a sub-conscious farmer when seated quietly. Some socialists eventually banded together to form political parties in order to secure more freedom for the working class. In the Gotha Program, presented in 1875, the Social Democratic Workers ' Party of Germany laid out their plan to demand reforms from the government in order to give workers more rights and freedom (Document 3). The socialist movement was caused by the great changes brought on by industrialization during the mid to late 1800s, and worked to create a socialistic organization of society. Many of these groups wanted to secure more rights and profits to the working class compared to the minimum rights and freedom they had with a pure capitalistic economy. There were many types of cannons used in the the civil war, including the 6-pounder Gun, M1857 12-pounder "Napoleon", 12-pounder Howitzer, 24-pounder Howitzer, 10-pounder Parrott rifle, 3-inch Ordnance Rifle, and the 20-pounder Parrott rifle. One of the more important technological advances at the time of the Civil War was the ability mass produce rifled barrel field artillery, increasing their accuracy and range. Smoothbore cannon were still used, falling into two categories, guns and howitzers, for firing at higher trajectories and shorter ranges.

Ashoka’s spiritual transformation began after they conquered and added Kalinga to their empire, and he felt remorse and quit violence (BGE). Asoka: ruthless conqueror or enlightened ruler? Ashoka was an enlightened ruler because of the way he cared for his people, and for his fair edicts.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Progressive reformers worked to improve the social, political, and economic problems in American society. Throughout this time, muckrakers helped reformers by revealing injustices to Americans through journalism, books, campaigns, photographs, and political cartoons. Poor working conditions, low quality of consumer products, and inferior democracy were present in American life during the Progressive Era; reforms such as state actions, the Meat Inspection Act, and Direct Primary helped to eliminate these corruptions. THE TANK World War One, also known as the Great War, was one of the most devastating wars in history. From 1914-1918 the world was plunged into hell on land, in the air, and on the sea; the globe was caught in a constant battle. WW1 served as an open door to new technological advancements off and on the battlefield. One of these great advancements developed during the war was the tank. The tank was one of the most effective machines in WW1, and in order to establish its significance research will be conducted to explore its background and how it developed throughout the war and the role it played.
The majority of this occurs in the United States from just after the War of 1812 up until the end of Jackson’s presidency in 1837. Most of this time is about how the U.S. had a lot of nationalism and let the government do many unconstitutional things. The United States was feeling great after winning the War of 1812. Therefore they let the government make and do the majority of the stuff that they would like. They created things such as the Second Bank and made taxes that were unconstitutional.
In the 1950’s the cold war had begun. The fear of retaliation from communists was at large. Some Americans believed that communists were amongst them plotting. This lead to a dark time in history when American opportunity became limited for many. Most rights were limited, normal life was disrupted, and the most necessary human right may have been taken.
During the time of the Progressive Era in 1900s-1920s, the majority of the American believed that the industrialization, immigration, and the urbanization had produced critical social disorders and believes that reforms were needed to be reshaped America. They also believed that it was time to eliminate the problem caused by the corruption in the government and promote the improvement in order to address the social and economic problems. People like Theodore Roosevelt and W.E.B.Du Bois also accepted that change was needed to improve and develop. The major changes were made in social, economic and political reforms. But, was the Progressive Era a success?
Life for the Union Soldier was not only brutal on the battlefield, but the camp life for a Union soldier was just as cruel. With the lack of personal hygiene, unsavory and repugnant food, and the shortage of clothing made living, a very difficult thing to do. Growth in the number of people with diseases was also a contributing factor to the massive amounts of death within the camp and as well as the post-battle wounds that often left either a man with one less limb or put in a mental institution. A Union Soldier’s life during the Civil War was cruel and horrific during their stay at the camps.
