Almost everyone knows what are video games; they are “ electronic games that involve interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device such as a TV screen or computer monitor.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game). Some very popular video game examples include Grand Theft Auto, League of Legends, Fortnite, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, etc. However,not everyone is familiar with the the idea that video games have a massive impact on players’ behavior and perceptions. People who tend to spend a serious amount of their time on video games and take it as a form of escapism from reality may start acting the same way in real life as they do in the game, whether it is to the better or worse. Video games are becoming a more powerful culture. In the journal article “Big Breasts and Bad Guys: Depictions of Gender and Race in Video Games”, the authors claim that video games are the reason of violence and even responsible for the increase in school shooting (p21). This may be true in a sense that most video games include shooting and killing which can change the players’ behavior into becoming more violent and aggressive in real life. The authors have come to a logical explanation and that “With video games, the model is the main character. This main character usually takes part in some violent act and almost always gets rewarded with an increased score or advancement of the plot for performing the act.”(p21), meaning that players get rewarded and be in better levels for performing violent actions in the game. They have also come to the conclusion that there is a positive relationship between video games and aggression. In addition, playing video games can totally change the player’s human perceptions and behavior( like decreased empathy for example), but also it depends on the player’s role in the game; if the player chooses a helpful character in the game, he/she will more likely be helpful in real life, but if the player chooses a character that kills and shoots will more likely be violent in real life. Third example is “On 22 July 2011, in what have been called “the deadliest [attacks] on Norwegian soil since World War II”,4 32-year-old Anders Breivik killed 77 people on Utøya Island. While on trial, Breivik described how he had trained for these attacks by using the computer game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”. Last example was “on 29 April 2014, the Daily Mail reported that a 15-year-old male, accused of stabbing his teacher to death,“was a fan of online video games”. In addition, “two teenagers in Tennessee who shot at passing cars and killed one driver told police they got the idea from playing Grand Theft Auto III”. All these examples imply that there is in fact a positive correlation between violence/aggression and playing video games. In addition, president Donald Trump claimed that video games is the reason behind the school shooting in Parkland. He tweeted “Video game violence and glorification must be stopped — it is creating monsters!” back in 2012. He added “We have to look at the internet because a lot of bad things are happening to young kids and young minds, and their minds are being formed. I’m hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games
