While looking at bicycles, some of the key features to look at include the affordability to consumers, quality or how well the bike is put together, appeal, and the most important to our company, recycled materials. After researching the bike industry, there are few, if any bike brands out there that produce bikes that are not only very affordable, but made out of recycled material. The competition that we face includes Trek, Tommaso, and Roadmaster bicycle brands. To compare these features, we use a value curve. A value curve is defined as, “Mapping out where a company has advantage over the competitor” (Abram, May, 6 2018). Trek offers bicycles for prices that range from roughly $1,500 all the way up to $13,000 (Road bikes | Trek Bikes). Tommaso bicycles offer prices from $300-$1300 (Tommasobikes). Lastly, Roadmaster, who is our closest competitor in terms of price, is able to sell their bikes for as low as $90 (Roadmaster Bikes). While looking at competitors prices, Recyc-a-Bike is able to sell their bikes for around $80-100, depending on the model. With this price, our company is able to have a specific market of consumers, including college students and others who are looking for a simple bike. We are a cost focus company because we target people who are looking for cheaper and simple road bikes. Our bicycle brand keeps up to date with the latest trends as well contains some models with the old school, classic look that some people enjoy having. Trek and Tommaso have a small edge on appeal to our company because of their extra sharp design and complex features with the money they have because of their higher prices. Roadmaster has a similar appeal to our company but while working with an intelligent design team, our company feels that we can add more appeal to our bikes.
