Summer Reading Assignment Jay Heinrichs in the novel Thank You For Arguing, asserts the reader that every argument has three basic steps: simulating the audience’s emotions, changing the audience’s opinion, and getting the audience to do or choose something. Heinrichs supports his assertion by defining the three types of argument... The Greek Philosopher Aristotle determined the three kinds of argument as forensic argument (which deals with balme and takes place mostly in past tense), demonstrative argument (which deals with values and morals and usually takes place in the present tense), and finally deliberative argument (which deals with choices and decision making and usually takes place in the future tense). Growing up is a hard time, and for the three most important characters in the short stories, “Two Kinds,” “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant,” and “Fish Cheeks” it certainly is no different. It makes them feel unacknowledged when all they want is just independence and acceptance of the ones that they find to be important to them. Acceptance is something every person wants to gain from everyone, it just is not something focused on commonly. For Jing-Mei in the story “Two Kinds” acceptance is not something often found in their family.
I am writing this letter to provide insight regarding the character and moral fiber of Michael K. Beeson for consideration fo the North Junior Football League, Ken Cgaig Award. As a student at Shadow Ridge Middle School, Michael consistently demonstrates the criteria exemplified by candidates for the Ken Craig Award. Michael attends school punctually, cordially, and prepared for any academic challenges he may face. In the rare instances when Michael has sought further clarification on assignments, he effectively seeks out and uses the additional information to produce high level academic work.
Randle McMurphy enters the mental institute with an attitude thinking he outsmarted the government by escaping hard work; ultimately leading him to see himself superior to the other patients. Randle McMurphy was initially brought to the psych ward because he convinced the military jail that he was psychotic. According to the military, McMurphy charged with statutory rape and it is this charge that set the story into play. “‘...and one arrest- for Rape… with a child of fifteen’”(45). R.P. McMurphy manipulated the system into thinking he was crazy.
A new patient by the name of Randle McMurphy was committed and something definitely is not right with him. He came in acting like he owned the place. A big part of me thinks he is not even supposed to be here. He seems like a guy who just wondered in off the streets. He is stressing all of us patients out and I cannot say anything because people think I am deaf.
“No one who can rise before dawn three hundred sixty days year fails to make his family rich”(Gladwell 249). In Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell shows that many factors come into play when looking at successful people. He shows that a series of luck, work ethic, and persistence can lead to success. When looking at people like Bill Gates and Bill Joy, Gladwell shows how these factors came into play in their early lives and allowed them to build their opportunity to become successful. Gates and Joy worked hard at what they were passionate about and ended up creating two major technological companies.
Mark Character Analysis The quiet ones are the dangerous ones. That is the case when it comes to Mark Kinney, the mastermind behind the plot to kidnap Mr. Griffin. In the book Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan, Mark is a malicious, sullen and charismatic character.
Mobina Shams “Benjamin, don’t underestimate the mentally ill”: The perceptions caused by others in Joon’s life. Self-perception is an element of behavior, and can be described as imperfect self-knowledge. Our self-image is created by society, its expectations, and the influence of others around us. Through the years, society has created conjectures that we need to meet in order to be accepted by others.

Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
“Two Kinds,” by Amy Tan, essentially revolves around the struggle of Jing Mei and her constant conflict with her mother. Throughout her life, she is forced into living a life that is not hers, but rather her mom’s vision of a perfect child; because her mother lost everything, which included her parents and kids, so her only hope was through Jing Mei. Jing Mei’s mom watches TV shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show, which gives her inspiration that her daughter should be like the people and actors. First her mom saw how on the television a three-year-old boy can name all the capitals of the states and foreign countries and would even pronounce it correctly. Her mom would quiz Jing Mei on capitals of certain places, only to discover that
