Wealth has become more common and noticeable throughout the years but what is uncommon is so many people being impacted by someone’s wealth. Bill Gates is the founder and owner of multi-billion dollar company Microsoft. Bill and his wife Melinda Gates are the founders of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The main intention of their foundation is to provide grants for projects relating to global health care, education, libraries, and the Pacific Northwest. The foundation was founded in 1994 and sense then has received may donations and evolved from a small idea to one of the largest charities in the country. Originally Gates main goal was to revamp teacher evaluation, teachers career progression, and pay. As the project and grant moved forward the projects objective has changed. “Much of Gates’ past work did prompt major changes to state policy of teaching in standard, but those efforts have not yet shifted student learning across the board.” Meaning that his new and primary focus is on changing the curriculum for all public schools to meet the state standards and students needs. To do so they have invested a fortune, “Nearly two-thirds of the 1.7 billion pledge Will go into helping networks of middle and high schools to scale up best practices, and into improved curricula that match state standards for student learning.” Although they left the teacher project in the dust they are putting the money towards programs that can help the students and the teachers, such as Khan Academy. Gates is attempting to work technology into the state standards and giving kids access to such things.
