Taking global Initiatives to change society has existed and been acted upon for quite some time. The most known individuals to take global initiatives are presidents, current and former. There are few former presidents who continues to take global initiatives after their presidency. They take these initiatives and make a global impact on society through the work of different foundations and contributions to different causes such as Cancer Awareness or HIV/AIDS Awareness. Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are two well-known former United States presidents who have made a global influence on society through their global initiative. They can be any size, financial, or nonmonetary. Each commitment to action must met three basic criteria for which they must abide by. The criteria are as follows: new, specific, and measurable. (Committments to Action, 2015) To be considered new, commitments must create brand new ideas to a major challenge. To be considered specific, commitments must outline a specific approach to a problem, have clear and feasible objectives that must be completed within a given time period, and articulate the desired outcome of the effort. It was established to uphold the purpose of assisting in global conflict resolution, development, and promotion of democracy. The Carter Center seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom, democracy, improve health. The mission of the Carter Center is to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope. It has several peace programs and knowledge programs. The peace programs consist of the Democracy Program, Human Rights Program, Conflict Resolution Program, Americas Program, China Program, and Global Access to Information Program. The health programs, on the other hand, consists of Guinea Worm, River Blindness, Trachoma, Lymphatic Filariasis, Schistosomiasis, Hispanioia Initiative, International Task Force, and Mental Health.
