Microsoft was like a teenager, still trying to figure out its full purpose. Bill and the company were still making plenty of money for that time. Microsoft started as a programming company, making, shipping and selling the coding for certain companies to upgrade their material. For a big amount of time Bill looked over every bit of coding shipped out, he even changed some of it if he felt it was necessary. (Biography.com) In 1980, Gates helped Microsoft blow out of the water when IBM needed an operating for their new computer design. The computer system that Gates started working on was called “86-DOS”, it was an operating system that let computers play discs with videos and audio. Gates renamed it “PC DOS” and sold it to IBM for $50,000. The only issue for IBM was that Microsoft never sold over the rights to their original software so Microsoft could sell their program anytime they pleased. The PC DOS was only one of many accomplishments Gates had made with IBM. After their success with IBM, other companies started to make software that would be compatible to IBM’s programs. Bill had started a foundation to help the less fortunate in India, and other poor parts of the world. It had all started with an article about diseases and other problems that countries without money were having. The foundation was already donating much money to many charities that promote clean water and safe vaccines for kids in Africa and India. After Gates left Microsoft fully in 2014 the foundation started to take off. The foundation built headquarters in every continent, they produce billions of dollars yearly for further research in vaccines and other solutions in attempt to solve global poverty and disease.
