William Gates III also known as Bill Gates has quite the life, he is a technologist, business leader, and philanthropist. Gates has done a great deal throughout his life including getting early computer programing jobs, dropping out of Harvard, creating Microsoft, to creating one of the biggest charitable foundations Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates has proven of an American dream we all wish we would meet and succeed at. Bill Gates is currently the richest person in the world worth 87.4 billion dollars. William Henry Gates III was born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. He is the son to William Henry Gates II, a prominent lawyer and Mary Maxwell Gates, who served on several corporate boards and was also a teacher. Gates’s family also included his older sister, Kristi and younger sister, Libby. They were an upper-middle class family who were close. Then in 1996 they had their first daughter, Jennifer. Later on their son, Rory was born in 1999, and then a second daughter, Phoebe, was born in 2002. After his mother died he realized he wanted to the world and do lots of charity work. So Bill and Melinda created the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000. Bill Gates left his duties at Microsoft to help out with his foundation full time. The foundation received numerous awards and he is truly an amazing philanthropist. Gates was named one of the most influential people of the 20t century by Time Magazine and him and his wife got named as one of the 2005 persons of the year.
