In the world, there are a lot of poor people who need help from the other people, and there are also a lot of philanthropists in the world who help them. One of the philanthropists is the co-founder of the well-known computer company Microsoft. Bill Gates, who was always independent and intelligent, and his wife have become two of the greatest philanthropists in the world. Bill Gates’ family had a big effect on Bill Gates. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1995 in Seattle Washington (“Bill Gates”). His great-grandfather, who was called Bill Gates I, was a prospector in Alaska. After he dropped off from Harvard, he founded a small programming company with Paul Allen. At first, they earned money by writing programs for school schedule and fixing problems for companies (“Bill Gates,” Aaseng 92). They changed their relationship’s name to Microsoft after they got an order from early Apple (“Windows”, “Bill Gates”). At the time they began Microsoft, they worked very hard and always stayed overnight. Bill Gates always stayed up and checked the program after Paul Allen finished programming (Aronson 75). Some problems came up as time moved on. Ed Roberts, the people who had permission on using MITS but not own it, sold it to someone. Bill Gates was surprised about it and also scare of it, because they would lose a lot of money. Bill Gates’ brought the buyer to the court and he won it back (Aaseng 95). Later on, they created MS-DOS, everyone used it but no one knew the name of the producer - Microsoft. However, Bill Gates was not discouraged and he worked more hard. Around 1982, they created Windows 1.0, and people began to know about Microsoft (“Windows”). Around 1987, they created Windows 2.0, but it was not too successful because it was just faster than Windows 1.0 (“Windows”). Around 1990, Windows 3.0 came out. It was a very successful product. Bill Gates was single even though Microsoft became one of the biggest company in the world. Bill Gates encountered Melinda in late 1980, but they did not get married until January 1st 1994 (Aronson 149 151). After they got married, Melinda went on a trip to Africa and saw a lot of people who needs help. She felt so bad because she lived in a very big house that cost millions of dollars but the people who were in Africa did not even have a place to live. She decided to talk with Bill Gates about this problem. At that time Bill Gates thought about helping the school in U.S, so they created Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Aronson 151, “Bill Gates”). At the beginning, they putted $106 million into the foundation, but some problems came out. They did not have enough people who knew how to run the foundation, so their family ran the foundation by themselves at the beginning. At first, most of the part was run by Gates father William H. Gates, so the foundation was known as William H. Gates Foundation (“Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation”). Manpower was not the only problem they had, but also the helping object. The people who needs the most never shows up but the people who needs the least shows up, so they had to go around the city instead of waiting in the house (Craves 76 77).
