B ill Gates is an entrepreneur and businessman who worked with his partner Paul Allen to build today’s largest software business Microsoft. He was brought up in an upper middle-class family with his older sister, Kristianne, and younger sister, Libby. In 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen made Micro-soft (they dropped the hyphen within a year). Although the company started out not doing so well, by 1979 Microsoft was grossing approximately $2.5 million. Computers mean everything to me and what he does is what I hope to do in a way someday. Bill Gates has faced many challenges, but he has also seen his fair share of success. One of the challenges Bill Gates faced was whether or not to drop out of Harvard University. Obviously, it is a great school but he was debating on whether to devote more time to Microsoft or to further his education. He decided to drop out but it took a year or so of convincing his parents to allow it. I would consider this a fun experience, because look where Microsoft is today. Having that said, Bill Gates did give up a lot of opportunities he could have attained at Harvard, but in the long run at least he dropped out for a good reason. It would not be fun to have my parents not happy with me for what I am doing. I do not know how I would have convinced my parents to let me to drop out of college. Another challenge Bill Gates has come across is whether or not to leave Microsoft. By early January 2008, Bill said that by the beginning of July he is going to leave Microsoft. Later, he announced that he has moved on to put all of his efforts into running the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The main objective of this foundation is to support projects in education and health care. I would not have been able to choose whether or not to leave Microsoft.
