The man with fourteen days to live is himself witnessing death” (Page 9). This is the creation of the spark in a reader’s mind. This spark is explained chapter by chapter as author, Bill O’Reilly, denounces President Lincoln’s death. Starting at two weeks from his death, O’Reilly explains what Lincoln experiences every day. Lincoln experiences the American Civil War, and it takes a toll on him and his country. At the beginning of the book, Lincoln is portrayed as a man of no fear. He is rather lanky, intelligent, studious, and systematic. As the book progresses, Lincoln’s image is corrupted. He begins to loose weight and grows depressed. O’Reilly educates readers on John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s assassin. Readers get the opportunity to learn about Booth’s history, his hatred for Lincoln, and his reason behind murder of one of the greatest presidents America has obtained. John Wilkes Booth is introduced. Booth is known for his handsome, charismatic, and tender character. Booth’s upbringing was chaotic, making acrimony a way of life for him. Booth believed he was “the only man in American who can end the North’s oppression” (O'Reilly 26, 27). Booth was to pick up the slack that Lee could not finish and try to preserve slavery and Confederacy. Booth’s malice towards Lincoln was always present. His first plan of action to take down Lincoln was to get a gang to kidnap him. To start Booth’s conspiracy, he met with Jefferson Davis’s men and they funded his conspiracy. Samuel Mudd and John Surratt were corrupted by Booth’s evil, and teamed up with him for his conspiracy. As time progressed, Booth’s hatred for Lincoln grew into his everyday life, and the conspiracy was no joke. Booth was a talented actor, so that no one knew about his evil plan, besides the men apart of
