The American people where done with not being treated fairly and where in search of amendments to ease the tension between government, state and people. The ‘Bill of Rights’ where designed to preserve individual Liberty and Rights . As an American I wanted to know more about my rights as a citizen of the United States and understand more on what the ‘Bill of Rights’ does for the American people, why they where implemented so many years ago. Understanding the ‘Bill of Rights’, one must look at why it was ratified in the first place. The ‘Articles of the Confederation’ was first implemented in 1781 during the revolution. That is one of the main reasons why it the articles had to be improved. The Bill of Rights was to improve the relationship between the state and people, but giving more power to the Federal government, Congress knew that the Federalists would never accept a new style of the Constitution until it showed that it would protect the “little guy” or in-other words the everyday farmer and at this time is history the shop owner. President George Washington was one of the first to say that they need a serious army. That is why he decide to write a letter concerning that the current states could rally up their militias against Indians but because of the changing times, that soon would be obsolete. The second Amendments which seems to be in the news more then any of the amendments is to bear arms. During the Revolutionary War British soldiers would take over private homes and that was the third amendment which prevented that. The Fourth Amendment stop the government from kicking in your door and going through your personal items on your private property. Amendment five through eight protected the people while being trailed, that included crazy bails, everyone has the right for trail by jury and everyone has the option to a speedy public trail. These Amendments also protected people from being imprisoned without a fair trial. The ninth Amendment gives the people other rights even though it might not be spelled out in the Constitution. The last Amendment (Tenth) limited the powers of the Government by what the Constitution states and if it doesn’t say anything in the Constitution then the power belongs to the people. The Bill of Rights took many years to be finally ratified, I believe the reason why is basically the delegates that attend wanted a perfect government that was in favor of everyone.
