Bill Pingitor once said, “I’m a coach because of the kids and the passion I have for the game and the sport itself. There is no better feeling than teaching a child the importance of discipline, hard work, team effort, dedication, determination and heart it takes not only in sports but in life.” Pingitor lives in Anaheim, California. After his long day working at Frito Lay, he volunteers his free time as a soccer coach for his daughter and the other local kids. As the coach walks up to practice, she’s wearing her oversized, ex-boyfriend’s hoodie, because that’s the only hoodie that will fit over all the layers of clothes she has on. It’s almost always freezing at practices, so she has on her sweatpants and her worn out Uggs. But why does she come to those practices when she could be at her house laying in front of a fire? She does it for the love of the game and the girls. As the team is stretching together the players tell their coach all of their “drama” that’s happening in their lives. All of the drama happening has nothing to do with the sport, but the coach cares about her players, she loves to hear the girls vent about it. A therapist typically works with a particular person to get them to be functional again, but a coach will take functional people to be remarkable, on and off the field. A difference between coaching and a therapist is that the coach listens to help the team; but a therapist listens to help that one individual. A coach will always listen to her teammates issues, because on a team sport the team has to get along to reach their goal, which is to win; except a therapist is more of trying to help one person to reach their goal in life. Between a coach and a teacher there are many similarities and differences. Both a teacher and a coach have daily goals for the kids, except a teacher calls them lessons plans, and a coach will call them daily objectives. A student athlete named Abe said, “You’re not going to change every student into a rocket scientist. You’re not going to change everyone on the court into an NBA star. I guess the thing we strive for is [for them] reach their potential.” A similarity between teaching and coaching is that a teacher and a coach want the best for their students, (or athletes), so they would do everything in their power to make sure that could happen. Having a coach be compared to many other jobs helps the individual be the best coach they can to help her
