It has to be difficult for someone to leave the only place they have ever known, and move to an entirely different continent, but yet it has to be truly brave too. Many immigrants left their homes, and traveled thousands of miles to The United States of America, in search of not only a new life, but a better way of life. In New York City, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, on 97 Orchard Street, stands a monumental building. The Tenement Museum is a historical site, which reflects the time span of 1863 -1935, during some of the peak years of European immigration to America.

All of these long standing buildings share a rich history that dates back to the pre Civil War era. The Gorgas House is the oldest standing. The Gorgas House was the first.
By Jacqui Crocetta. It was a dress made out twigs and wire. My perspective of Goldsworthy 's artwork and the Landmarks sculptures purpose of gathering nature materials and turning it into art is to prove to people that they don’t have to spend so much money on art when they have their own materials outside their local area. Another purpose of their artwork is to have people reflect on how beautiful nature is and the importance of taking care of the
As a business major the one building that I will call home for the next four years of my life is the Huge Merrill Hall building. To me, it is one of the prettiest buildings on campus. There are many aspects of this building, but the eye catching part of it is the lobby. The lobby is a great place because this is where you can sit, study, talk to a friend, and even watch the local news on the flat screen provided. Not only is the lobby practical, but it is enormous.
McPike Mansion is located in Alton, Ill, and was built in 1869 by Lucas Pfeiffenberger. Its original owner was Henry McPike, then was later on owned by Paul Laichinger and he had sold the rooms out as an inn. The house is now owned by Sharyn & George Luedke, and they do give tours and they are trying to fix it up to get it to look as if it did before. There are many different haunting and places in the house they say things happen. they say the main thing they have noticed is they see ghost hunters, tour guides, and tour groups around the house.
Versailles and Forbidden City represent the difference of traditional cultures and art between the East and the West. Versailles has a elegant U-shaped main building in the center and a royal court with diverse plants. Inspired by the architecture of baroque Italian villas, but executed in the French classical style, the garden front and wings were encased in white cut ashlar stone that called enveloppe. The inner palace for royal family living is decorated with minors and luxurious lights. Sculptures and paintings are displayed in every corner.

Both the beautiful Fallingwater and the gorgeous Kentuck Knob are architectural masterpieces located in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Both were designed by the famous and talented architect Frank Lloyd Wright, but for two different families. Fallingwater was designed for the owners of Kaufmann’s department stores, the Kaufman family. While Kentuck Knob was designed for their friends, the Hagan family. The house are both similar in many ways, but also have many stunning differences.
In honor of the return of my eccentric landlord, this week I read Wells Tower’s The Landlord. In the letter I wrote to you, I spoke about wanting to write a quietly horrible story. Though I am not sure Driving Thomas is exactly “quiet,” I do think this story captures that feeling. This story is made of nine short sections.
Have you ever been here? This is the famous Empire State Building. It is also known as an American cultural icon. The Empire State Building is located in New York City.
Her first book had been a work on interior decorating; and now in her novels she adopts the practice of inventorying the contents of American houses. She had an excellent taste for decoration. Hundreds of interior design books are published every year. But they all owe their existence to a pioneering guide that was all the rage in 1897: The Decoration of Houses, written by Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman Jr. Wharton, at the time, was a 30-something Manhattan society matron with a keen interest in architecture and interior design, rather than the Pulitzer Prize–winning novelist she would become.
When all placed together these elements create the feeling of luxury living while still real and personal to teach and every client’s home. Rebecca’s design is quite luxurious while keeping it a traditional home. After all, it is still a home, her design juxtaposition for high-end elegance and homey traditional pieces keep the house to be admired and a home to be lived in. “You should always be able to curl your feet up on the sofa.” (Robeson, Meet Rebecca Robeson,
After some explaining, I found out that Casa Mila is Gaudis most functional building and the wavy shape of the palace efficiently uses all the space provided by the octagonal block it sits on. Looking even deeper into the facade, you notice that the buildings exterior consists of large carved white stone that fit together like a puzzle piece. This method of building is one of the reasons why the building was named La Pedrera or the Stone Quarry. Supposedly during construction, the entire block would be filled with stone masons chiseling away at these massive stones so that they fit perfectly in place. No stone in the building is the same and instead of the building having a bright colorful facade like Casa Batllo, Casa Mila has a very pale colorless facade.
