Family stories impact how we see ourselves because they give us an idea of where we come from and how we fit into our family. Life can be very hard when you have choices. My culture believes that parents choose your path in life (not always but in some cases). My family is made up of seven people, my dad, mom, three brothers, one sister and myself. My dad first came to Canada from Pakistan in 2004. I came to Canada with my mother and younger brother in 2008. We lived in Calgary, Alberta and moved to Toronto, Ontario in 2016. You have to face many challenges, but in the end you come across many opportunities. My father came to Canada four years before my family did. He moved here because there were more opportunities and one could live a way better life. After he was successfully settled here with a proper job, he called us because he wanted his children to have a proper education. Some challenges that my father faced were finding a job right away and making friends, which can be a bit of a challenge for everyone. Some opportunities that was given were a better life for him and his family, and eventually made some great friends which support him to this day. My cousin was the second person I interview. I interviewed him because he came to Canada in 2015 on a student visa. He went from Pakistan to Calgary and attended University of Regina, University of Calgary and then now he is attending York University. My cousin who came to Canada when he was twenty struggled more than my dad because he was young and new to the adult world. Some challenges that he faced were finding a part-time job right away, and adapting to the environment. Supporting your children helps encourage them to make choices on their own and discover their individuality. Family activities such as camping trips, sharing a hobby and family chores help children learn and practice different skills they may be able to use as adults. Criticism, lowers a child’s self-esteem, especially if you criticize their performance in academic or sports. Everyone develops their sense of self in the environment in which they grow up. The family always plays a very important role in shaping the identity of kids as they grow up to become mature and successful adults. Family members can relate to one another and they function together, which can have a huge impact on a person’s life. My family’s history has influenced myself because, as I saw how my father and grandfather struggled growing up, it taught me to push through whatever I was going through and still go after what I have always wanted. My grandparents could proudly say who their kids were and how much they succeeded in their lives. Witnessing how my grandparents were super proud of my parents, made me want to get good marks and make my parents proud also, which is one of the biggest influences my family history has on
