John George Haigh, more commonly known as “The Acid Bath Killer” is a serial killer who murdered six victims throughout 1944-1949. John Haigh was born July 24 1909 in Lincolnshire in Stamford. He grew up in a very religious household, he was raised in Outwood, Yorkshire where his father an Ultra-religious Plymouth Brethren was a colliery foreman (Blanco. Murderpedia). His parents were extremely strict. John’s father put up a ten foot fence to keep the neighbors out causing Haigh to grow up alone, his only friends being his pets and caring for the neighbors dog. At night Haigh was haunted nightmares (Casale. The Acid). Haigh did not get into any trouble up until his 20’s when he was arrested on theft charges. Haigh was caught stealing money from the cash box from his first good job. After getting out of jail he married Beatrice Hammer. The same year Haigh went back to prison, Beatrice had a baby and put it up for adoption and left Haigh. Upon Haigh's release he was jailed again for fraud fifteen months later. Two days later Constance Lane, reported Olive to be missing which opened up an investigation. Detectives looked into Haigh's records noticing the fraud and theft charges. They then had reason to check the store front. Discovering the sludge, which revealed three human gallstones, parts of a foot, a lipstick container, a purse strap, some spinal disks, and bits of the pelvis.
