I primary believe in the biological perspective. However, on the topic of schizophrenia I find that I favor the cognitive perspective. "Schizophrenia is usually caused by a combination of genetics and ones surrounding environment; however, problems with certain naturally occurring brain chemicals, including neurotransmitters called dopamine also may contribute to schizophrenia" (Mayo). With a lot of studies done throughout this decade, researchers have concluded that they have evidence that supports that schizophrenia is a brain disease. The biological perspective can play a big toll on schizophrenia. It is proven that this disorder runs in the family and can be passed down from one generation to another. With his permission I will now share one of his examples with this disorder. Back when he was in high school his disorder effected every single aspect of his life. He dealt with his mother dying at a very young age, which caused a lot of trauma and depression to occur, this can be related to the cognitive perspective that states bad thoughts (trauma) trigger schizophrenia. Once he was finally able to overcome this situation he was almost in high school. He recalled that he would feel as if God was talking to him and that he can feel God's presence around him. Most would view this situation as normal and just assume he was religious; however, as he grew older his disorder got worse. By the time he was a senior in high school he went from being very active and social to withdrawn from everyone. A couple of friends and I have noticed his behavior and asked him what's wrong because at the time we were not aware of his disorder. He ended up telling us that voices in his head told him to not talk to anyone from our grade level because they told him we are all Satanic. He eventually ended up dropping out of high school and doing home schooling. After awhile I ended up finding out he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and that this disorder ran in his family; however it is not present in all family members and generations because his sister who was older than
