We are surrounded by numbers right form our morning coffee till we go in bed. The numbers surrounds u, whether it is the probability of failing in an exam or possibility of our favorite team winning the final game. These floating numbers plays an important role in our life. After graduating with bachelor’s degree in Biological science, I was hesitant about my future career choice as a Biologist. Although, I loved the science, the competition within the fields and its confined options for growth bothered me. I needed a career where I could guide people through my analysis of data. Knowing that I already did not want to pursue as I originally planned, my thoughts wandered into the field of Data Science. …show more content…
I found that class to be very interesting, because it revolved around numbers and calculating the probability and getting the graphs from research data points seemed to be very impressive to me. This is because I am working at Merck as an Associate Scientist at Merck, and I do lot of HPLC work. I produce lot of chromatograms through instruments. However, I am impressed by the fact that the method that we used for calculating the areas under the curve in my Stats class, is the same technique used by the software to calculate the area under the chromatograms. Furthermore, after graduating with Bachelor’s degree in Biological science, I started teaching myself programming languages such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and Python. The SAS language is challenging because even if one misses semicolon into the code, it will produce an error of 6 to 7 lines, and then we have to go back and figure out, what’s wrong with the code. This can be actual challenging and fun task to do at same time. However, it takes a patience and good deal of concentration to master SAS language. I am still not proficient in SAS language, but am currently learning and exploring the language. Moreover, after doing more research about Data Science, I found that the programming language used by Data Scientist to analyze data is the Python
