This was where I first developed my multitasking skills to oversee and coordinate four clinical research studies. My strong communication and interpersonal skills enabled me to meet crucial deadlines and work efficiently with physicians, nurses, pharmaceutical sponsors, and study monitors. I strive not only to be a great employee and team player but also to serve and positively impact my community, especially the medically underserved. For more than five years, I have volunteered over 1,000 hours, and most recently, I serve through the Lestonnac Free Clinic and Access OC organization as a Spanish interpreter. As a bilingual Spanish-speaking nurse, I hope to help my community by breaking down the language barrier between patients and the healthcare team in order to ensure the accurate continuity of care.
Overall, in a constantly evolving medical field, I want to be certain that I can aid in whatever challenges emerge—utilizing technology is a key component of that. Furthermore, I am ready to cultivate networks and collaborate with researchers. To engage with those who are experts in the field and share my passion for the medical field. Establishing and building these relationships with researchers will aid in the lifelong pursuit of research and, moreover, establish a dialogue to learn about the advancements that are happening here, in Rockford, and around the world. Personal Statement Last summer I had the opportunity of participating in the U54 Sumer Research Program and it was an incredible experience, because it helped me in my professional development and discerns my future carrier goals. I want to return to MD Anderson Cancer Center, because it counts with a variety of physician scientists and physicians that integrate their clinical work with innovating research and this will improve my development as a future physician and researcher. Being able to do research in my area of interest and having the experience of a clinical rotation in pediatric oncology help me diced that I want to become an MD. My actual professional goal is to be a pediatric physician specialized in oncology, orthopedic surgery
My academic goals after I graduated from UC Irvine is to achieve a higher education beyond a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences. I have set going to dental school as a primary goal after graduating. My goal is to eventually obtain a D.D.S (Doctor of Dentist Surgery) degree. Working towards a specialty is an interest that I am very curious in pursuing; however, as of now becoming a general dentist is my main goal. I regard the STEM Academy as an extremely positive program that will significantly help my peers and myself in the future. Science has many stimulating topics that have helped our world to advance. The STEM program will definitely push me towards the science aspects of life, allowing me to become more educated in the subject. I hope to be able to join the STEM academy to gain more knowledge in the fields of science and math, to be able to collaborate with others more efficiently, work independently, and to be triumphant in being the best student I can. I want to achieve beyond what is expected in an average student and expand on all my skills.
Each job has provided me with a new perspective in on the field of healthcare. Overall, I have witnessed over 24 surgeries and have seen what it is like behind the scenes to work in a hospital. In addition, my interest motivated me to seek a unique opportunity outside of the Tri-Health program. Anatomy and AP Biology students at my high school were invited to apply to participate in a leg cadaver lab at a local orthopedic surgery center.
I can contribute my perspective as a woman of color from the inner city of New York to a conversation about diversity and racism. My experiences as an African American woman provided me with the ability to navigate and adapt to different and sometimes difficult situations. Furthermore, I can share and expand on my involvement leading different clubs and organizations. In the future, I aspire to be a leading scientist in the environmental studies field. In order to achieve my goals as a leader, it is essential that I establish a strong ability to explore and combat racism present in communities.

The first woman president of an African country, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, once said, "The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them. If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough. " While the fear of uncertainty of the future or failure may be intimidating, I have confidence that through hard work and perseverance future goals are achievable even in light of adversity. In 10 years, I will have attained bachelor, masters, and PhD degrees in biomedical engineering (BME) by 2024 and have some industry experience.
There are two engineering careers that interest me, biomedical or civil engineering. I know they may seem completely different, but due to the fact I take some classes in the engineering field, and some in the medical field, I still have not decided which way to go. A biomedical engineer creates equipment, devices, computer systems, and software used in healthcare, while a civil engineer designs, builds and supervises construction projects such as bridges, buildings, airports, and many more. A biomedical engineer focuses a lot on bringing knowledge to create, design and evaluate biomedical equipment.
Also I believe that this school has also helped me to know what path to go on in my journey of becoming an engineer. As a dreamer and queer woman of color, pursuing a career in STEM has been quite challenging. But I have never let anything get in the way of reaching my goals and dreams. I have swam against the current in order to be where I am today, where I have dreamt of being. I am currently a second year student at Trinity Washington University majoring in biochemistry and minoring in mathematics. I am a dedicated student and an analytical and skilled critical thinker who is eager to learn.
In the age of nine, I was diagnosed with Short Achilles Tendon. Although it could be treated by tendon lengthening surgery, the cause of the condition remained unknown. Due to the limitation of knowledge and technology in a small town located in East China, the orthopedist suggested me to seek for better diagnosis in more advanced hospitals. Therefore, my mother started taking me to different cities, different hospitals, and seeing different physicians. In the following half year, I was assumed to have congenita myophagism, cardiovascular disease and even cerebral palsy.
