Dongui kim 1214328 3PSECO 1.Compare and contrast the biopsychosocial and biomedical model of health including the advantages of biopsychosocial model over biomedical model. Biomedical model of health explains that all illness can be explained on the basis of aberrant somatic processes, such as biochemical imbalances or neurophysiological abnormalities. And biomedical model assumes that psychological and social processes are largely independent of the disease process. Biomedical model has difficulty accounting for why a particular set of somatic conditions need not inevitably lead to illness and psychological and social factors are that influence the development of illness, and these are ignored by biomedical model. Biopsychosocial model of health is an interdisciplinary model that assumes that health and wellness are caused by a complex interaction of biological, psychological, and sociaocultural factors. This model is based on the system perspective and Biopsychosocial model rejected biomedical mocel as dogma. The biopsychosocial model clearly implies that the practitioner must understand the social and psychological factors that contribute to an illness in order to treat it appropriately.
