The meeting was to review the current Birth Center Remodel plans, with specific focus on the revised NICU and sharing experience from other NICU tours. Draft of functional & space program was also reviewed. 1. Objectives of the meeting. a. Concur with the revised layout of 3rd floor with specific focus of NICU layout. b. Prioritize NICU unit needs. 2. NICU tour lessons learned. a. NICU staff toured UCSF, Kaiser San Leandro and Mills Peninsula level 3 NICUs, and their experience was shared with design build teams. b. UCSF • Large patient rooms (approximately 180 sf or bigger). • Noise level was very low because of single patient room layout. Mobile refrigerator was not the original plan and there is temperature fluctuation issue. Fixed refrigerator is preferred. • Supply room behind nurse station. • Advanced technology was implemented. Cardiac monitor with split monitor screen monitoring other rooms. Staff communication via Vophone. • Centralized screening implemented; however, it was concerned with all system failure situation. c. Kaiser San Leandro • Approximately 150 sf patient rooms (140 sf to 160sf due to building bracing structure on perimeters). • Smaller rooms (Kaiser Template) and much cluttered rooms. • Partner sleep space seems to be very small and not ideal. • 70% of rooms are interconnected double rooms. As a results, there are less wall space to mount equipment. Ratio of twin is about 40%. • Alcoves for equipment charging etc. located at the end of hallways were nice. • Single stainless steel scrub sink was liked. d. Mills Peninsula. • Approximately 180 sf patient rooms. • 12 beds semi-private rooms with sliding doors. Average 3 to 8 patients, and patient use a full double room in most of time. • Mobile carts cluttered space. e. Other
