The Civil War. Louis P. Masur’s book, The civil War: a Concise History, Is a book that gives an overview of the civil war from 18 to 1800, Providing multiple causes an consequences that emerged from the war. The book begins by reviewing the origins of the war. Chapter one covers the issues between northern and southern states and the tension over right and slave possession. The tension created a conflict that raised a number of political, social, and military events that then proceeded into a battle to abolish slavery from the colonies.
The Civil War was the result of uncompromising differences between the free and slave states over the power to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states. When Abraham Lincoln won the election in 1860, as the first Republican president on a platform promising to keep slavery out of the territories, seven slave states in the deep South seceded and formed a new nation, the Confederate States of America. Military during the Civil War was off, but equalled out in terms of stats, North having better leadership and South having better weapons. As the United States expanded westward, two new territories were created from the issue of slavery in the United States. The U.S. government let the two new territories decide whether or not to allow slavery.
When the south seceded from the Union, the Confederacy was formed and the Civil War began. The Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863 by Lincoln as the Civil War was coming to its third year. The proclamation states that “all persons held as slaves within any State”... “shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free;” This document was revolutionary because it freed all former slaves. However, Abraham Lincoln did this only because he was convinced it was a reliable military strategy.

However, the North defeated the South and shaped today’s government. The North won the Civil War due to the advancements and production of weapons. The Civil War was fought between the Northern States, known as the Union Army, and the Southern States, known as the Confederate Army.

The Civil War was caused by the state’s rights and their need to escape the Union, slavery which poised a great threat to the breakable United States, and the economic differences that identified the strength and weaknesses of the North and South.

The Civil War occurred between 1861 and 1865 in what was the battle to determine the survival of the United States of America as a sovereign state with indivisible federal government. The Civil War where Confederate States of America sought secession from the United States was successful in the sense that the seven Southern states that sought independence from the United States failed. In 1865, all the Confederate armies surrendered ending the war and bolstering the United States as one nation where the South agreed to be part of the larger US.

This means the right to be free in a country. America had trouble with finding how liberty can be a part of the country. The fight for liberty was difficult to obtain because America had the break from Great Britain, needed to build a country from scratch, and come together as a country. America was not always a free country.

Northern and Southern United states began to have simmering tensions for the states’ rights versus federal authority, plus westward expansion, and slavery had huge effects on the states. An election which made anti-slavery Republican Abraham Lincoln the president of the United States of America in 1860, caused seven of the southern states to concede from the Union to make The Confederate States Of America soon after four more joined afterwards. It changed Americans in many ways as neighbors fought each other through the 4 gruesome years of the war. Conflict between the sides were like fights between brother and brother instead with many deaths.
The American Civil War is a war in which the Union and the Confederate States of America were pitted against each other because of one specific heated topic: slavery. There were a few other topics which caused this war to break out, but those topics were either far inferior to the topic of slavery or topics that were related to slavery in some way. In the United States, slaves were always of African descent. The Union, or the northern United States, ended up winning the war, therefore abolishing slavery everywhere. The Reconstruction Era then began, leaving African Americans to deal with many different issues which are still prevalent in society.
After the efforts to gain independence from Britain and the creation of the United States of America, eighty years later this union was not so united. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, it was the first time that Americans fought Americans. Among many reasons, the Civil War is known to be a result of the arguments over the delineation of the States’ Rights or the presidential election of Abraham Lincoln. In actuality, the Civil War, the most deadly war in American history, was due to disputes over slavery in the American territories. Therefore, the Civil War was inevitable because of the consequences that occurred one being slavery.

Women’s rights were put forth into motion. Along with Reconstruction laws being passes and the push back that these laws caused. During this time the south became even more divided and started to take things into account and create their own laws in regards to racism.

Born into slavery, men and women lived hard lives with only hope that they would make it through to live another day. Most slaves died at early ages, due to hard labor and exhaustion.
