The original minstrel performances were used as an outlet for “working class white youth” to express “their own sense of marginalization through identification with African-American culture forms” (Starr & Waterman, 46). Even when Thomas Dartmouth Rice’s song Jim Crow became popular in 1829, it was still being used as a way to make fun of the upper classes. Angela Davis is to be considered one of the most important political activists in African American culture. Davis was born on January 26th, 1944 in the deep south, more specifically, Birmingham, Alabama. Due to this, Davis was very susceptible to racial prejudice in her early years. She was also influenced by the idea of communism at a young age because her mother was actively involved with politics. Davis spent the majority of her early years as a scholar.
In my report i’m going to talk about the Pirate clothing, religion, where they from, how they live, the things they do, their history, and my 3 main points are gonna be their ships, blackbeard, and their flag . Almost all pirates stole their ships because they couldn’t buy ships incase they got caught and sent to jail. Once they had taken over a ship they had to covert it for pirate life, this usually meant making more room for sailors to live on bored and strengthening the decks to hold the weight of the heavy cannons. Ships sailing on their own often sailed close to warship or joined other convoys of ships to protect themselves from pirates. Pirates could only attack one ship at a time, so if the sailors traveled in groups there was a less chance of their boat being the one attacked.
Everyone have different cultures everywhere in the world. there are all types of people with different ways of doing things. Like cajun culture it is unique. The food we eat, the music we listen to, and the cloths we wear and other factors. There is another rare culture that I am interested in it is black culture.
The 1920's might not have become such a significant time period if it hadn't been for the contributions of many minorities and immigrants. African Americans gave birth to the Harlem Renaissance, women began to be viewed as equal and Italians were known to practice in organized crime. Overall, the 1920's was filled with positive outcomes for many minorities. African Americans found a new way to show their racial pride through their art. A new genre of music was created from a mixture of various cultures called Jazz, which pretty much everyone fell in love with.
How has the Harlem Renaissance helped shape American culture. The Harlem Renaissance has impacted the 21st century greatly. Without the Harlem Renaissance there would not have been such a drastic change in our literature and music. The Harlem Renaissance played a great role in the ending of racial discrimination later in history. The Harlem Renaissance movement ended in the late 1930's because of the Great Depression, but The Harlem Renaissance continues to be an inspiration to many.
The Black Plague struck Europe in the 14th century and spread rapidly, destroying families and towns (“Black Death”). To become infected, it only took some contaminated bodily fluid and the infected would die within a few short days. In today’s world, the Plague is easily treatable with common antibiotics. However, that was not the case back then and this changed people’s lives and outlooks on society. Different groups of people within a culture responded to death in different ways, that culture’s writing reflects this.
In the 1920’s jazz greatly rose in popularity, due to the process of recordings. Jazz’s popularity directly correlates to how it personifies African-American culture. Many black musicians felt as though they weren’t getting the recognition they deserved. These musicians were upset about being ripped off by recording labels, and rightfully so. Apart from being upset about how they were being treated by record labels, white America did not feel comfortable with the music being solely from African-Americans.
