The overwhelmingly brutal and chilling murder of a young Boston born women named Elizabeth Short has frustrated and shocked people since the day it occurred. The infamous Black Dahlia murder case is among Los Angeles oldest and most prominent cold cases ever to be worked. This tantalizing unsolved case has gone 69 years with no identification of the monster involved despite the hundreds of suspects. I will detail and piece together the investigation that was set forth by the Los Angeles police department and also give my personal insight on what I think happened. In 1947 her body was found by a local passerby in mid-January cut in half and viscously mutilated. The location, “a vacant lot near Leimert Park, on the 3800 block of L.A.'s South Norton Avenue.”(YouTube) Shorts body was surgically cut in half, drained of blood and washed clean which lead to the local authorities to believe the suspect had medical training of some kind. Also the body showed signs of trauma to the head along with her mouth being cut from ear to ear. The brutality of her murder quickly catapulted the discovery into local and worldwide news and the hunt was on. Turning leaf after leaf detectives could not seem to get any closer to solving the murder of Short’s despite interviewing hundreds of associate and friends of hers. A commonly used method by the police is to keep information only the people involved in the crime a secret from the public, using this they canvased through many false confessions. The false confessions for this high profile case poured in from people I assume where looking for infamy and to be known.
