The original Black Panther Party (BPP), was started in 1966 and led by Huey P. Newton. They were started in Oakland, California in a fight against the police brutality and unjustified murders up there. We see the same thing today with Black Lives Matter(BLM), a group that originally started as a Twitter hashtag and blew up around the world. Its real impact came in 2013 after the murder of Treyvon Martin by George Zimmerman getting off. This was not as large until the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson and Eric Garner in New York City.
After learning about the death of Emmett Till and being posed with the question of if it sparked the black lives matter movement, I would have to agree. With the social injustice Emmett Till endured it would not be right to claim the attention brought to this subject did not spark the modern day justice movement “Black Lives Matter.” First of all, the Till murder was about a fourteen year old, African American male who went down to Money, Mississippi to visit his family. While down there, Till entered a store and upon leaving he whistled at a white lady, not knowing this was considered a heinous crime. The white lady eventually told her husband about the incident, obviously, this was not appreciated so the husband decided to punish Till.
Black Student Unions are currently present throughout the nation due to efforts of past struggles. San Francisco State College (now University) was the first official campus to coin the name BSU as well as the first University to open up its own College of Ethnic Studies department. This came out of the Black Studies Department formed due to the Student Strike of 1968 to 1969. The College to this day continues to celebrate its forty years of functioning and stands proud on the fact that is is the only academic department of its kind throughout the country. Within a later conference held in California, other campuses took up the name and Black Student Unions became widely accepted.
There was a group founded in 1996 called “Black Panthers”. It was a U.S. African American militant party who used self-defense against the local police. They grew to espouse violent revolution as the only means of achieving black liberation. This is similar to the “Black Lives Matter” protesters, but they wanted a more peaceful protest. They both are dealing with our cruel police who are killing African-Americans, and getting away with it instead of helping them.
Notable personalities such as Martin Luther King Jr led protests aimed to address end discrimination and racism against Black communities. Likewise, BLM as an activist’s movement intends to condemn the continuous police brutality and killing of innocent African Americans. Why doesn’t the average person take the Black Lives Matter movement seriously? Like many movements, the initial purpose of BLM has become perverted by an ignorant population of its followers; this group shouldn’t be a representative of the entire movement but sadly they tend to be the most well known. Generally, the crowds that gather to represent BLM are peaceful. However, these peaceful protests aren’t the ones that attract the most attention; it’s the violent ones. After 5 police officers were murdered in Dallas, a nearby 7/11 was looted.
The Black Lives Matter was founded in 2013 by three African American women. It’s another social justice that has made national news for their cause. Black Lives Matter is just more than a social movement. It is an out cry for help, as a nation, as a whole. Black Lives Matter is a community.
Black Friday shopping has evolved into an unusual sort of spectacle that grows excessively with every coming year. As a country, we go from a prideful national holiday, Thanksgiving, where we give thanks for all of the things that we have in our lives, to fighting tooth and nail a few hours later against other people for the things that we do not have. According to the Accounting Degree Review and its article, “Black Friday By The Numbers” (2015) in recent years, “89 million shoppers braved the crowds on Black Friday 2012, up from 86 million in 2011. 247 million shoppers over the weekend 2012, up from 226 million in 2011” (p.1) A lot of people are obsessive and forward with their efforts to own the next best thing, but yet fall silent to giving their support for pivotal social movements occurring at the same time as the largest shopping event of the year.
I think If Martin Luther King Jr. were to reappear today he would definitely note that in the almost 50 years since his death, there has been progress with race relations in America, but we still have a long way to go. He wanted the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners to “be able to sit down at the table of brotherhood” (Simon, 2016) and that brotherhood “will be able to work together” and to “stand up for freedom together.” I think he would have helped out with the Black Lives Matter movement, but he would have also made more of an effort to include a greater percentage of other races in the movement and in the conversations that need to happen about injustice, racism, and discrimination in todays society. “About four-in-ten

In case you don 't know or understand, Black Lives Matter is a Civil Rights movement against police brutality, wrongful killing of blacks , and being subjective to racism and white supremacist on a daily basis. Some people believe that this movement is racist ,Anti-American, and not a civil rights movement , they believe this just a bunch of thugs that are anti-police ,anti-American and that we are just “pulling the race card” to get what we want in America and to get head in life. Some people also try to change Black Lives Matter to “All Lives Matter” because they do not fully understand the meaning
The black lives matter movement is a modern-day civil rights movement. The movement has 26 chapters in the United States, and aims to help black people that are powerless to the state, take a stand against racist brutality towards black among many other things. The organization makes it noticed that they support all black people no matter their gender or sexual orientation. The Black Lives Matter movement started two years ago in 2013 after the acquittal of George Zimmerman when he shot and killed Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed. This especially caused uproar when he later pulled a gun on his wife, showing that he is indeed violent.
When you think of Black Lives Matter what do you think? A hate movement? Violence? Well it is in fact none of those things and this article is going to help you understand why.
