The new Marvel Movie, Black Panther, just hit the market and everyone is raving about it already. This movie hero from modern times shares the same qualities as a hero from ancient Greece; the stories of heroes use the same concepts, just with different names and settings. For example, Odysseus from Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey, shares multiple characteristics with the Black Panther. The major difference between the two is that Odysseus is struggling to go back home while Black Panther is struggling to save his home, but both concern the battle against injustice.

Odysseus is far away from his homeland; therefore, the suitors are taking advantage of this. As Odysseus is away the suitors take advantage of his poor depressed wife, Penelope. They are waiting for Penelope to remarry one of them so they can obtain Odysseus’ land and inheritance, which they think they have a right to it since they are men. In the case of Black Panther, Erik who has not been to Wakanda ever, tries to come in and steal his place as king. Unfortunately, Erik won the fight and threw Black Panther down the river. For this reason, his family came to think he was dead and was horrified by their new king. No matter if the heroes are apart 2,000 years or come from different cultures they both give us hope in life and show us that we can overcome our difficulties in dreadful times.The world as we know now is filled with numerous gruesome conditions and it fills us with anguish seeing whathow it is becoming. Heroes are the light in our life showing us that no matter how terrible the world is, there are exceptional people out there that we can count on knowing they can and will do the right thing even when there are people that will not. Heroes light up the darkness we have in our world and help to make it better; they uphold justice in an unjust
