A strategy that was used by activist during the civil rights movement was civil obedience. This makes a reference to the social movements in the United States that were working toward outlawing racial discrimination against African Americans. Also they were working toward restoring voting rights. The civil obedience movements occurred between 1955 and 1968, primarily in the South. The start of the Black Power Movement, which lasted from about 1966 to 1975, broadened the goals of the Civil Rights Movement to incorporate racial dignity, economic and political self-sufficiency, and freedom from mistreatment by white Americans.The movement was characterized by very important campaigns of civil resistance. Between 1955 and 1968, acts of protest
