In the book, Black Rednecks and White Liberals Thomas Sowell argues that the Black Ghetto culture is not an authentic black culture as many people believe. It is in fact a culture that has be passed on by white southern rednecks. This culture originated centuries ago from the parts of the British Isles that white southern people came from. A culture known as cracker culture. this subculture was shared between black Americans and white southern rednecks but has died out in the white population today and still alive and well in the poor urban black ghettos. This culture affects the way people look at their education, the way they talk, the violence in their community, and the way they look at sex. The problems that they face are due to the poverty and lack of education within these communities. The lack of funds for school makes harder for the community to have an interest an education. Also, the redneck culture that thrives in these communities is to blame for the struggles that they face. Slavery has very little to do with the problems that are faced today by the communities of African-American. Blacks that were free in the north and those that were slaves were very different. Freed blacks where somewhat accepted by whites. Those that were free in the north had a different culture then the ones in the south. They were allowed to live in some white neighborhoods and even allowed good jobs. Meanwhile the blacks that came out of slavery and out the redneck culture were disliked by whites. Caribbean blacks that moved to states were seen different from those of the redneck culture. They cared about education and owing business. They also had a history of slavery. Sowell argues that all these groups were under some type of slavery but do not face the same problems as those that were brought under the redneck culture. Slavery is not to blame but the culture that these blacks grew under. It is the African American community to blame for the problems in their community because they have to better themselves and help their community and people grow and become
