Ashley Farmer created a book that not only explains the important roles Black Women had during the Black Power Movement, and what how pivotal role they played. She writes this book to bring a more descriptive touch in the way Black identity is approached in literature. She believes that the Black Power Movement transformed not only critiques America’s views on race but the activism also formed a “general black model.” Farmer’s remaking of Black Power, allows for the audience to get a critical look at the various roles women could take on and be a part of the Movement. She also offers information about significant role women played in reshaping the ideological and political perception of Black Power. She states the movement played a role in creating a general narrative of Black Americans, I agree that the movement played a role in the creating a stigma that hovers over the head of Black Americans. I believe that this general model was created during the Black Power Movement as well because the rhetoric and the media’s narrative was indeed a facet of Black Culture. Though, the movement allowed for this view to be perceived as the only form of Black Culture and this is what caused the movement’s image to suffer. Ashley D.
