Bloods: Black Veterans of the Vietnam War The historical identity of the African American military experience is deeply rooted in the life and legacy of author Wallace Terry. His legacy has been immortalized in the scores of periodicals and columns he authored throughout his career. Well-read and well-traveled, he brought a balanced context to the field of journalism. To date, he is one of Black America’s greatest contributors to African American journalism.
The same is true for African American individuals in the work force. The workforce claims to give everyone a fair and equal hand, but often times African Americans are given the short end of the stick. This lack of opportunity leads me to question the structural conditions that have created cultural patterns that reinforce disadvantage. The structural issues of inequality in the workforce lead many individuals to have a stigma towards African American individuals. This stigma taint’s society’s view towards this group and allows them to make judgements on other aspects of their lives.
Conflicts during the 1930s through the 1970s were great, the mainstream idea would be due to World War II but what was significantly missed is the struggle that was at home. Different groups of individuals had to fight for their homes and jobs due to the unwillingness of equality of the white man. The values during this time were missing due to the ideas of a man who was out at war. Many different movements began and were impacted during this time women, African Americans, and Natives were all tremendous impacts on the war. Yet it seemed to take second place to the white man in history, even in areas that they significantly impacted on the war.

Synthesis Research Paper Everyday growing up as a young black male we have a target on our back. Society was set out for black males not to succeed in life. I would always hear my dad talk about how police in his younger days would roam around the town looking for people to arrest or get into an altercation with. As a young boy growing up I couldn’t believe some of the things he said was happening. However as I got older I would frequently hear about someone getting killed by the police force.
African Americans face a struggle with racism which has been present in our country before the Civil War began in 1861. America still faces racism today however, around the 1920’s the daily life of an African American slowly began to improve. Thus, this time period was known by many, as the “Negro Fad” (O’Neill). The quality of life and freedom of African Americans that lived in the United States was constantly evolving and never completely considered ‘equal’. From being enslaved, to fighting for their freedom, African Americans were greatly changing the status quo and beginning to make their mark in the United States.
The performance of a police officer is always under a microscope especially when it comes to dealing with people from another race. There is also the idea that police officers use racial profiling to conduct and solve many of the crimes that are happening in their neighborhood. The racial profiling aspect is very sensitive and it can be difficult to determine if in reality it is happening because this is coming from someone else 's perception. According to Wiener, R., et al (2007), profiling is used by law enforcement officer to help them find needles in haystacks - to identify the few bad guys hiding in plain view among the mass of ordinary people (pg. 36).
As our law enforcement, people would think they should be able to trust them, but that is not always the case. Law enforcement treats minorities differently than whites making minorities feel the tension when they encounter each other, studies and polls show the evidence, and black cops working in law enforcement can see how white cops treat them. Using several examples, my intention is to first bring attention to the fact that black men are feared in public spaces and then demonstrate how the United States government uses fear as a form of social control of black males.
