He sings songs that will make people laugh, some that will make them cry and others that will create a smile. This created his uniqueness, not many artists can do all of that for their audiences. There is music on his nine previous albums that do one or two of these but, the “If I’m Honest” album can do all three of these. The lyric, “She put a big FU in my future…”, from the song “She’s Got a Way With Words” is the safe distance song of the album. Some fans and outsiders were looking for the negativity but that is not Blake’s style. He put a funny twist on a rough situation, and the song “Doing It to Country Songs” let his fans know that the same Blake people love is still there. It is funny with an older style country beat to it that Blake has always been known for. Putting out an album after a divorce did make the album release a little different from his previous ones, but he did it the best way possible. This is another reason why many people were expecting some negative song lyrics about Miranda but that did not happen. Something else surprised people and that was the song titled, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart”, the song is a great break up song with an edge to it that keeps it classy. The song was not what surprised people it was the person featuring in the song, Gwen Stefani, Blake’s girlfriend. Hollywood Reporter states that, “The mid-tempo country song finds both singers hesitant about jumping into something new in the wake of a still fresh heartbreak” (Kauffman). It gave another twist to the album that also let fans know that life goes on, including his. This song also gives a story, which is that hesitance comes after getting into a new relationship.
