Who is to blame for the deaths and lies in The Crucible? The girls were some of the people who influenced the people to think and believe that witches were in their town. The town of Salem was horrified with the idea of the spirits being among the people. In this story many people were killed by the people because they believed they were witches making evil in their town. The girls were accused of dancing in the forest and made people believe they had special abilities that would help them see spirits inside people. As the girls got more involved in the lie that they made things in the town became more serious and many were accused of witchcraft which was concluded to be executed. The girls at the beginning of the story they were accused of doing a dance in the forest and summoning spirits. The town of Salem believed that going to the forest was compared to being in the devil’s hole. …show more content…

She was also an influence to the rest and when she gets caught she denies it. To keep her lies going she threatens one of the girls who knows the truth which occurs for Abigail to threaten her. “ You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctors wife!” ( Betty pg. 1137) “ John- I am waiting for you every night.” (Abigail) She wanted to be with a married man and when John Proctor rejects her she decides to turn in Goody Proctor say that she wants to harm her. The pressure of the girls been more in the spotlight of the whole town made it harder for the girls to say the truth. The problem became more serious when they called a minister to look for the devils in Salem. “Then let you come out and call them wrong. Did you consult the wardens before you called this minister to look for devil’s?” ( Proctor Pg. 1142) This caused the problem to be more than anything Salem town had seen before so it was taken to the court which they decided what happen as well as the girls took part and had authority
