The play The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, is a story about, love, lies, and blind judgment. In the story, a young Puritan, by the name of Abigail Williams, was lusting after a man by the name of Joh Proctor. John’s wife was sick in bed so Abigail was hired to take care of the house in place of Elizabeth Proctor. Many months went by and Elizabeth had recovered only to find out, her husband had had an affair with Abigail Williams. Elizabeth throws Abigail out the house, leaving out a girl who has experienced things a child should never have to learn. Abigail didn’t like the idea that what she wanted is out of her reach, so she turns to witchcraft. John Proctor always knew this was entirely a lie, but never told anyone, Abigail confessed it to being child’s play due to his feelings he still holds for Abigail. John kept this secret away from everyone up until Elizabeth Proctor was accused by Abigail Williams of sending her spirit out to stab her. John Proctor then drags Mary Warren to the court to confess it was all a game and that the girls cannot actually see spirits. Abigail and the other girls then accuse Mary Warren of witchcraft in a quick defense of being hanged. Mary Warren, being the wimp she is then accuses John Proctor of witchcraft and an attempt to overthrow the court by using her. John Proctor then confesses to lecture with Abigail Williams, which would disprove her “holy blessing” to see spirits. He calls upon Elizabeth Proctor as his witness, but when it came time for her to show she is always truthful, she then lies to the court and denies the fact that her husband ever cheated on her. John Proctor was then arrested for an attempt of overthrowing the court and
