It is said that every woman loves diamonds. Most diamonds come from African countries and created large conflicts, such as warlords who rebel efforts and civil war. How many women are aware of that? The movie Blood Diamond is about these types of diamonds, called blood diamonds or conflict diamonds. I think the purpose of this movie is to create awareness about the African civil wars, the slaughters and outrages of those wars and how diamonds fund them. The film does a successful job of correctly portraying the culture and the events that took place there. The film takes place during the Sierra Leone civil war in the 1990s when the rebel Revolutionary United Front invaded settlements, killed civilians and captured men and young boys. One of the events being President Clinton’s affair. As well as air strikes leaded by the hired South African troops. As well as being an accurate explanation of current events and modern history, the movie manages to tell the viewers what is really happening in parts of Africa. The audiences get to see the shocking change of good boys turned into numb, brainwashed rebel soldiers. That particular portrayal is the best-communicated message in the film. The fact that child soldiers did not choose this is impossible for one to forget. Blood Diamond does a brilliant job of raising awareness to the western world about child soldiers. This movie opened my unaware eyes to child slavery, the diamond-funded wars and the other forms of violence of rebellion in parts of Africa. The film accurately portrays the terrors of the civil war in Sierra Leone and references real events. Through Blood Diamond’s use of precise graphic interpretations it effectively shows us the transformation and brainwashing of innocent boys into child soldiers.
