Crime scene investigators noted signs of a struggle left under Estelle’s nails. After it was already too late, DNA testing determined the skin found under her fingernails was not a match to Blair but rather a match to the other suspect at the time of the original investigation. The expert DNA testimony at Blair’s trial consisted of fibers and hair found in his vehicle, on his person, and at an unrelated park was circumstantial and eventually disproven by DNA
Andrew Davis September 27, 2016 Forensics Mr. Malgeri Ronald Cotton Case Ronald Cotton was sentenced to jail in 1995, after serving ten years for a crime he didn’t even commit. Eye witnesses are considered to be the best form of evidence in an unsolved case. Mr. Cotton was convicted primarily by an eyewitness named Jennifer Thomson-Cannino, who was sure she identified the right male. Years go by and the case was re-ruled and the jury ruled Jennifer 's description as a misidentification.
In September of 1961, a woman from District of Columbia had an intruder break into her apartment. While the invader of the home was there, they had taken her wallet, and also raped the woman. During the investigation of the crime, the police had found some latent fingerprints in the apartment. The police then established and processed the prints. The prints were then connected back to 16 year old Morris A. Kent.
James Rackover was led out in cuffs from New York 's 13th Precinct, center, after being charged with the murder of Joseph Comunale, left, 26, over the weekend. Lawrence Dilione of Oceanport, New Jersey, top right, has also been charged with his murder. Rackover and Lawrence Dilione are facing charges of second-degree murder, tampering and hindering prosecution charges after they allegedly stabbed Comunale 15 times and then tried to burn his body with gasoline on Sunday. The body of Comunale, who goes by the name Joey, was discovered in a wooded stretch on the Jersey shore early Wednesday. His partially-burned remains were found inside a suitcase that had been buried behind Foggia 's Florist in the town of Oceanport.
That all changed when his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman were found stabbed to death outside Nicole’s condominium. OJ Simpson was a prime suspect and controversy swirled for years about the facts and circumstances of the murder. However, in 1995, Simpson was acquitted.
The authorities showed up not long after. The Bodies were discovered on the floor in the front room with head wounds from a blunt force and appear to have been burned in the fireplace. Alexander Smith had three wounds on his head all coming from a weapon that would cause blunt force trauma. The Suffolk County Coroner concluded that two wounds were to the right Auditory Meatus. One wound was along the lambdoidal suture and the hair was driven into the head, and the other was on the Parietal bone, an inch and a half in length.
Among them were things like distinguishing slash wounds in five murders across the victim's necks, similar handcuff marks on various victims' wrists and blunt force head trauma to half of the victims (Chen, 1989.) Shoe prints were also left at the scene of two murders, the shoe prints had to be either a visible print, plastic print or latent print. Examiners use several methods in the collection of shoe prints depending on the type of impression that is left at the scene of the crime. For collections in soil, which was where the print was found in the Ramirez case, casting is the most commonly used collection method for analyzation. The evaluation and comparison of impression evidence is usually performed by a trained footwear and tire mark examiner (NFSTC, 2013).
The reason O.J. was found not guilty of murder and acquitted in criminal court, but found guilty of the tort of harm and ordered to pay damages in the civil court lies in the structure of our legal system, in regards to criminal cases and civil cases. The distinct difference between criminal cases and civil cases provides further explanation regarding the O.J. Simpson case. Criminal cases deal with crimes against society. It is the government, not the victim, who brings action against the charged individual. In criminal cases, the penalties can include a number things including jail time.
The only thing on Sam’s pants was one significant stain, but other than that they were blood free. After much research, Sheppard and Cooper found evidence that two of the autopsies contradicted each other. "A report read, 'Scrapings removed at autopsy from underneath the fingernails of Marilyn Sheppard: No significant hairs or fibers noticed’… but an earlier twenty-eight-page trace-evidence report described red material, blood, hair, a plant fiber, a dark blue wool fiber, a red wool fiber, fine blue fiber, and thin pieces of wood” (1). As the report had stated, there was no significant hairs or fibers noticed, but the twenty-eight-page-trace-evidence report had a long list of fibers and other significant samples. The long list of different fibers, hair, and the thin wood pieces could have been the key to solving who really killed Marilyn.
O.J and Nicole’s marriage had fallen apart due to physical abuse by O.J. Several documents from police reports show that O.J was capable of doing harm. He was also a jealous man, always having a controlling arm behind Nicole’s back. When found, Nicole’s head was nearly decapitated and Ron Goldman was brutally stabbed, convincing the prosecution that whoever committed the slaying of these two young lives, must have been fueled with anger. Along with the double homicide OJ faced, he was charged with resisting arrest. The day of his arrest O.J fled and lead cops into a public televised car chase in his white Bronco in Orange County.
The case begins on June 12th,1994 when Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman are stabbed to death. Their bodies found in the front courtyard of Nicole's condominium in Brentwood. Oj is taken into custody and pleads “not guilty” to both criminal charges. However, there are several crucial pieces of evidence that suggest otherwise. Some evidence that suggest that Oj was responsible for the murders include; Neighbors witnessing Oj driving away from the murder scene around the time of the murder, DNA test proving that three of the blood stains found near the rear gate of Nicole's house belonged to Oj Simpson, Oj had an alby for every hour of the day except the time that the murder took place, and many more implicating pieces of evidence.
There was multiply evidence that, traced back to O.J. Simpson. His blood was recovered and fingerprints were local on the back fence. Later they found his hair in a knit hat at the crime scene, which the same kind of fiber was found on Goldman’s clothing. Fibers from simpson’s car were also similar to the knit hat. In his vehicle, he had blood from both victims and a pair of bloody socks in his house, along with the right glove that was missing from the crime scene.
OJ Simpson was an idolized NFL player, actor, and broadcaster. He was loved by all and defied all racial barriers during the 1900s. People didn’t see him for the color of his skin, they saw him as an American hero. This was until June 12, 1994 when Nicole Simpson, OJ Simpson’s ex wife, as well as Ronald Goldman were found murdered. This was the beginning of the end of most Americans respect and adoration for OJ Simpson.
Anthropology Questions: 1. Was this crime indicative of the beliefs, morals, and culture of the two aggressors? 2. Were there any scratch marks found on the victim? Were there any fingernails found at the scene of the crime?
Ron was a black belt and in good shape and when he was taken in there were injuries all over his body including cuts and scrapes on his knuckles that suggest that fought the murderer for ten to fifteen minutes before finally being killed. The autopsy report for Nicole Brown states that “The incised wound of the neck is gaping and exposes the larynx and cervical vertebral column” and “On the left side the left common carotid artery is transected with hemorrhage in the surrounding carotid sheath and the left internal jugular vein is subtotally transected with only a thin strand of tissue remaining posteriorly with surrounding soft tissue hemorrhage”(Nicole) show that Nicole was not murdered in a simple way. Clean cuts made by the murderer suggest that they had some experience with killing since if it had been slightly off blood would have spilled down her throat and it did not. OJ Simpson had no reported knife training and his intolerance to blood make the situation unlikely as blood sprayed everywhere. OJ’s physical condition did not match what happened at
