His skills in musical composition meet no limits when Bob Dylan is nominated for the highly prestigious Nobel Prize. A landmark award in the revolution of evolution in six different criterias: literature and music, medicine, physics, economics, chemistry and peace. The prestigious award was established through Alfred Nobel after his death. In his will he states that every recipient who had won in the designated category is to win a prize (in cash) for their breakthroughs in their field and in the world. On October 13, 2016 Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize Award for his literary masterpieces in his musical composites. In his very early years of college, Dylan was offered a contract with Columbia Records and signed on. Early on in his career he created works which contained multiple different lyrical devices with significant historical references to his current time. We as human beings have a way when it comes to words. Language is how we escape the boundaries of emotion, a way to express ourselves and influence those around us. Through lyrics, music, and poetry, Bob Dylan represents these aspects of communication through means of art. He applied his literary skills and musical knowledge by referencing past literature and older music in his lyrics to influence and inspire his listeners. Being exposed to music and art during his adolescent years led him to create his sense of style and genre in which he's widely acclaimed for. Influenced by the blues, country, and rock and roll, he began playing music as a teenager, teaching himself to play guitar, harmonica, and piano. (WLT). His exposure to blues affects his musical references. “Hand me down my walking' cane” as a reference to the traditional walking blues song “Hand Me Down My Walking Cane,” popularized by Jerry Lee Lewis while also providing literary context to the story in which is told in his song. With his references familiarized, and consequently, his music became an influence for many people. In fact, Pope John Paul II quoted Blowin in the Wind. The Pope referencing his music only solidifies Dylan's poetic skill in his lyrical writing and how it can speak to people on a massive scale. Poetry and literature are important parts of his life. The constant references and literary use in his musical work are important indicators for this, but his name is an even bigger one. Robert Allen Zimmerman is the genius behind Bob Dylan.
