Bob Dylan was an inspiring artist. However, he did have many struggles throughout his career, but stayed true to himself. He paved the road for future artist, and he achieved things that many people dreamed of doing. Bob Dylan became a groundbreaking musician by beginning his career as a folk singer, and later becoming a rock and roll artist, receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Nobel Prize for Literature, and being accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When Dylan switched up his style, he did gain new fans and lost some old ones. Throughout his career Bob Dylan has received some of the highest awards. For example, Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 2016, which he has been nominated for many years (Junod). Danny Duncan Collum wrote in online periodical “A Corner Turned” which stated that “The Nobel committee hedged by citing Dylan’s, ‘new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition” (Collum). For Dylan being known as a neo-poet of the pop culture and him being recognized for the prize has opened new opportunities (Collum). He was also the first rock star to receive the Kennedy Center Honors; he had received it for his artistic Haney 3 excellence (Biography.com Editors). Also during the year 1989, Bob Dylan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Biography.com Editors). At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony Bruce Springsteen spoke about Dylan saying the following: Bob freed the mind the way Elvis freed the body… He invented a new way a pop singer could sound, broke through the limitations of what a recording artist could achieve, and changed the face of rock and roll forever. (Biography.com Editors) During a performance of “Maggie’s Farm” Dylan walked on stage wearing a leather jacket and a Fender Stratocaster guitar around his neck (Andrews). However, many of Dylan’s fans considered him a sellout, trying to connect with the youth culture (Andrews). Even though some of Dylan’s fans turned on him, he still had many hits. In 1973, Dylan wrote the song “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” which was later recorded by Axel Rose and Slash of Guns N’ Roses (Margotin and Guesdon pp.381). One of the many reasons Bob Dylan was so successful was Haney 3 because he used an explosion of instruments and some of his famous poetic lines (Margotin and Guesdon 180-182).
